Pocket Universe
1982, 1986 | Carboard box, wood, glass; 1982: 3 x 4 x 1 ins.; 1986: 1.75 x 2.5 x .75 ins.; 1984: an edition of 25.
MEANT AS reductive analogy to the condition of universal relativity, the Pocket Universe contains two blocks, one fixed and the other free moving. From each block’s perspective, it is impossible to tell which of the two is stationary (true) and which is in flux (false). The Pocket Universe, seen here in its original configuration, below, was later issued in an edition of twenty-five smaller pieces, above. They were sold in museum shops and art stores.
