Psalter
1999-2018 | Epoxy, gold leaf, glass, brass channeling, balsa wood, paper, natural elements, watches, mirror, presstype, booklet; 14 x 14 x 8 ins.
THE PSALTER IS a “perpetually immobile machine” that, when turned on, resolves the pervasive condition of universal motion into a state of pure existence. As a golden lover embraces a framework of entwined force vectors powered by four elemental “batteries,” time, signified by two clocks running in opposite directions, ceases to exist and the rational and irrational merge. Thus is God completed. The piece, created in stages over a decade, also contains a detailed booklet explaining its genesis and purpose. The figure was modeled in clay, cast in epoxy and patinaed with gold leaf. The four frames are made of balsa wood that fit together in a brass-paneled glass box. The piece sits on a base that reads continuously ""Perpetually immobile is that machine that is immobile perpetually immobile is that machine ..."
